I love being on break!

4 02 2010

I have been ejoying my mini break before spring semester starts and yesterday was the best day yet! I went to my sister’s house and hung out with her and these precious little munchkins for most of the day:

We went to the movie store so that Aggie could get a new movie and the sister and I rented Love Happens
I had never even heard of it and I think that it is pretty new. In any event, it was amazing! I loved it so much and I stongly recommend it to those of you who live for romantic comedies, as I do. We watched it when the kiddies were asleep, which made it much more enjoyable. After her husband got home from work, we went to see It’s Complicated
This movie was also amazing! I loved it so much and I cannot wait for it to come out on video because I am definitely going to purchase it!
On our way home from the movies, we drove by the Muckelshoot Casino in Auburn and saw that they were having a casting call for The Amazing Race. I have watched the show a couple of times but never really got into it. My sister on the other hand loves it and she said that if she could go on any show that would be the show. But she said that her husband would never do it with her, so I suggested I go with her. We both got really amped and when we looked into the details we found out that we could not go to the casting call and there is a really long application process that had to be done by…today. So needless to say, we can’t go on it but we are really going to try to do it next year and I am really excited about it; it should be fun.
I also finished Catching Fire (I will write a review on it shortly) and I started Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet and I am loving it. I did not quite reach my goal of finishing the four books that I wanted to finish by the end of Februrary but finishing them before spring semester seems very reasonable.
I hope that everyone is having a great week and I plan on having some more exciting stuff to post soon!

Week 5, On The Bachelor

2 02 2010

This week on The Bachelor was another drama filled one (aren’t they all?)! I liked how they did the dates, the group dates get overwhelming and the individual dates let us (and Jake) get to know the girls better. Tenely and him were so cute on their date…I think that they are a great match for eachother. I was sad that Corrie had to go home because their date went pretty well, minus a few awkward parts, and they would be a good match as well. He had to boot someone and their relationship was definitely the least developed. The two-on-one date was amazing! I love Gia so I was disappointed that she did not get a one-on-one date but she made the most out of their situation and I think that they probably got sufficient time together, especially since there was not a rose at stake. Vienna still acted like there was. I could not believe that she went looking for them when they were having their together time and then went and saw him when he was in bed. She will stop at nothing to get attention and I think that is what she loves most about this. She gets so much attention and she doesn’t care whether it is good or bad. I enjoyed Ali’s date with him too. They are really cute together and I can tell that she is being really honest with him all the time, about the Vienna situation as well as just her personality in general. She doesn’t hold anything back, but she is classy about it. I don’t really have much else to say except next week looks like it is going to be amazing!
I hope everyone has a great week and I will try to make an effort to post something else before the next bachelor. I am finally done with my J-term class so I am on vacation for a week. I should get some good reading done and get some book reviews up!

Oh my…

2 02 2010

On Friday night, I went to the basketball game at University of Puget Sound with the boyfriend and after the game we went to get something to eat. In the parking lot we saw a car with this printed on the entire back window:

DROP 3 SIZED IN 10 MINUTES

(WITH A PHONE NUMBER TO CALL)

It gave me a good laugh and I wanted to share it.

Yummy!

28 01 2010

On Friday, I went to my friend Kristina’s house for the day and she made me a wonderful dinner! It was so delicious that on Sunday I made it for the boyfriend and his roommates, and they loved it! I thought since it was so amazing I should share it! I call it Kristina’s Chicken Enchiladas (creative, I know):

Makes 8 servings
about 1/2 pound of chicken
1 can of refried beans
1 box of spanish rice
1 can of corn
1 can of red enchilada sauce
8 tortilla large tortilla shells
grated cheese
desired amount of sour cream, salsa, and lettuce

1. season chicken with taco seasoning and bake it in the oven on 350 until cooked thoroughly
2. while the chicken is baking, cook rice and heat up beans and corn
3. once the chicken is cooked, shred or dice it up to desired size
4. warm tortillas in the microwave for about 10-15 seconds
5. put a generous amount of beans, corn, chicken, rice, cheese, and a couple of spoonfulls of enchilada sauce onto the tortilla shell, roll them, and place them in a glass baking pan (which you may want to lightly grease).
6. Once all of the enchiladas are in the pan, pour the remaining enchilada sauce over the top and cover with cheese. Bake in the oven on 350 for 10-20 minutes, based on desired chrunchiness of the shell
7. Remove from oven and top with lettuce, sour cream, and salsa. Enjoy!
You could also include olives in the enchilada or as a topping. These enchiladas are so amazing and I hope that someone tries them!

Week 4, On the Bachelor

26 01 2010

This week on The Bachelor was quite an eventful one. I really like that they went on a road trip; it is different than anything that they have ever done and it gave them more of a real life experience, especially the date that Gia had with Jake. Speaking of which, Gia is my new favorite. I did not like her in the beginning, mostly because I judged her as a model and then she started to come out of her shell and after last night I realized she is really awesome and Jake should take note. They were really cute together and their date was so perfect! She really impressed with the fact that she is so much a city girl but she just had a really good time doing country girl stuff…plus I though it was funny that she wants a pig. The group date was an entirely different story. I was a bit skeptical of the sand boarding…you would get sand EVERYWHERE and I am not quite sure how I would feel about it. It looked really fun though! A funny quote from that date was when Vienna said, “You can have 30 minutes in the dune buggy with him, I don’t really care because I am going to marry him.” Very funny. While talking about Vienna, I could not believe that when he asked to go talk with her she said that she wanted to be last. How rude! Especially since he actually wanted to talk to her at that time and she was selfish and said no. The two on one date was crazy, as they always are. I felt like Ella would have been a really great match for Jake, but what do I know?! Once he sent her home though I knew that he was going to send Kathryn home, mostly because Ella was such a better match that I figured he wasn’t going to keep Kathryn either. The best shot of the entire season was when he threw the rose in the fire after that date…the cherry on top of a so far cheesy season! I loved it though. I also loved that all of the girls thought that Vienna was going to go home..he likes her so much, obviously. Why else would he keep her through all of the bad things that the girls are saying about her? Additionally, I think that he gives people the boot when they talk bad about her. Jessie was already most likely going home because she hasn’t really been close or open with him but I think that what she said about Vienna was really the last straw, the deciding factor, if you will. That is really the conclusion of what I have to say about this week’s episode. I am looking forward to next week, as usual.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Week 3, On The Bachelor.

19 01 2010

This week was a dramatic week on the Bachelor! I enjoyed it very much, although I have started to like girls that I never really noticed and not liking other girls…First, was the one on one date with Vienna. The bungee jumping part was really sweet with them both afraid of heights and Vienna comforting him. Their first kiss was also very sweet yet a little cliche, especially since it was already done on the season with Jason and his bungee jumping date with Molly (there seems to be a lot of similarities between this season and the season with Jason). However, there is something about Vienna that just rubs me the wrong way. She is definitely not my favorite. Second was the group date. This date was very interesting and I think that it ended appropriately. I don’t think that anyone really deserved a rose and if they did it should have been Tenley, who I really like. I also think that it was appropriate for Michelle to go home. Her jokes were terrible and she already had her things packed, she was really asking for it. Even though it was nice to see her go, there were many memorable quotes from her tonight, “I am not desperate”, “I am here to find love and everybody…certain people knew that I was the one”, and finally, after everything, “Jake just is not right for me.” Oh what a night. I loved the one on one date with Ella (another flashback to the season with Jason and the single mom Stephanie). Her son was really adorable and she is just a really nice person. She is definitely one of my favorites. It was awesome that they got to get in the water with the trainers and they got to go in with the penguins, just a really awesome date. The rose cermony was something else. I am glad that Jake did not keep Elizabeth around because she really was such a tease. All she did when she was with him was talk about how much she wanted to kiss him but how much she really didn’t want him to kiss her but she wanted him to kiss her and then she would tease him about how much she wanted to save the kiss but she really wanted to kiss him….and around and around we go. It was her time to go tonight. Poor Valishia, I didn’t even know who she was when the ceremony was over. I also saw on abc.go.com a preview for tonight’s show in which Tenley said to Jake that she was pregnant….hmmmmm, interesting. First of all, that didn’t happen, and second of all, it was the part when she was telling him that she had previously been married. There has been so much deceit on the show this season with the producers of the show, it makes me sad. Anyway, that is really all that I have to say about this week’s episode, can’t wait until next week!

On another note, I am super excited for the olympics to start. Mostly to see my love Apolo Ohno. I loved him on the last olympics and when he was on Dancing With The Stars. I saw this commercial today and it made my heart sing! Go Apolo! Go here to see the commercial!

I’m Lovin’ It!

16 01 2010

No, not McDonalds. I am loving the song Somewhere We Only Know by Keane more than anything right now! I was inspired to purchase it after watching He’s Just Not That Into You last week and I cannot get enough of it.

School is pretty crazy right now, trying to do a class in four weeks is a very big commitment; it is like having a full load of classes. I only have 2 weeks left and I cannot wait to get back to nursing classes.

A couple of other things that I have been meaning to say:

1. Fanny Packs should be bannished. It disturbs and frustrates me when I see people wearing them, please stop trying to bring them back into style, they will never make it.  I saw a girl at a basketball game yesterday wearing one and she was really trying hard to make a fashion statement with it and I just really wanted to ask her to take it off and burn it…it may seem harsh but they bother me.

2. Congratulations Cindy on your new baby boy!  I cannot wait to meet him!

3. I am so thankful that it is a 3 day weekend. Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

I will leave you will the video for Somewhere We Only Know…unfortunately, it cuts the end of the song off(what can you do?) ENJOY!

This Week, On The Bachelor.

12 01 2010

My opinion has definitely changed from last weeks episode of the bachelor. First, Jake is just such a nice guy. I loved when Christina was getting her picture taken and he could tell she was uncomfortable so he just worked his way in and made her feel 100% better (plus the part when she was drunk was hilarious). This improved my decision about him right away. Not that I ever thought that he was a bad guy, I just didn’t think he was right for the bachelor, he is too nice and somewhat naïve. After this, Ali went on her date with Jake and I just have to say I love her. I also loved the bit with Chicago (and that song!).  She seems like a really sweet person and she had an obvious spark with Jake. They make a really cute couple and I enjoyed watching their date, mostly because she just seems so awesome. I also enjoyed the second group date except there wasn’t really anybody from that group that I particularly favored. Ashleigh seems like she is a really happy and positive person and whenever she talked she just seemed so full of life, which is refreshing at the least; it was a bummer she got sent home. I thought it was funny when they were in the limo an she said “Oh, imagine your first kiss under the fireworks.” But Elizabeth and Jake weren’t kissing….kind of ironic. I don’t really have any comments on what happened wit h Rozlyn…it was weird and sad and disappointing but I think that there is more to the story. I wasn’t really shocked at who got sent home, the few people that I like are still around. Just a thought…I wonder if Christina took a pack of her jelly beans when she left?

I saw a preview for Dear John during the show and I cannot wait for it to come out. I previously read the book and I loved it. I think that the movie will be great!

That is all for today, hope everyone has a great day!

Goodnight Nobody…

11 01 2010

was an amazing book! I just finished it yesterday and I loved it. Goodnight Nobody is a novel by Jennifer Weiner which reminds me of Desperate Housewives (Amazon.com says that it is Desperate Housewives meets Sex In The City). It is a mystery with a little bit of a romantic comedy touch. I could not put the book down from the second I picked it up; all of the action starts in the first chapter and never lets up. I loved the story line and it had a great ending with a bit of a twist that I was not expecting. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone….so go read it!

Pony Pony Run Run

8 01 2010

I am looking at my genius recommendations on Itunes and it told me that I would like this band called Pony Pony Run Run. I really like their song Hey You but I cannot get a really good idea of what they are like. I listened to a couple of their songs on youtube and when I tried to read the reviews, they were all in a different language, weird. They remind me a little bit of Hellogoodbye but their latest CD I tired of reall quickly…I am looking for anyone who has heard of them or likes/loves/hates/dislikes them. Opinions?
